HOKITIKA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, March 31. News was received here on Saturday evening of the death at his home, Christchurch, of Mr Alfred Stapleton, after a long illness. Deceased was the fourth son of Mrs Stapleton, of Stafford Street, Hokitika, and was a native of Hokitika, and about 50 years of age. For many years he was a member of the Hokitika Band and acted as secretary for a term. Deceased leaves a wife and nine of a family, five of whom were of a former marriage. Besides his mother, he also leaves three brothers, Messrs James and Harry Stapleton of ''Hokitika, and Albert, of Christchurch, and three sisters, including Miss Florrie Stapleton, of Hokitika. As a mark of respect to the late Alfred Stapleton, the Hokitika Municipal Band adjourned the playing of a programme in Weld Street last evening.
