“MOVIE” ORCHESTRAS

AUSTRALIAN UNEMPLOYMENT. (By Cable—Press Assn. —Copyright.) I ' i —— ' t SYDNEY, December 2. The Prime Minister, Mr J. H. Scul lin, received a deputation from the professional musicians, who have lost their employment, owing to the advent of the Talkies, and of “canned music” and who now are seeking for special taxation of the film organisations in order to create an- unemployment fund. . The Prime in reply, said that the Federal Government viewed very seriously, the inroads that were being made ,by the “canned music.” The Government, were certainly not going to allow America to take away the employment of this country. - Mr Scullin suggested that the parties should have a conference and try to solve the problem themselves, as otherwise the Government would have to take a hand, just as it was doing in regard to the tariff.
