With six wickets down for 165 in the second innings, the visitors resumed batting, and there was a partnership between the not-out men, Worthington and Legge, which troubled the State bowlers, adding 61 runs. Then Allom made another stand with the former, and kept Queensland fielding fox* half an hour after luncheon. The innings realised 259 runs. When O’Connor and Levy went to the wickets, Queensland required to get 183 runs to win, in 180 minutes. The start was disastrous, O’Connor going at five, and Levy going at 13. Gough, however, bated vigorously in a solid partnership with Rowe. Both were lucky in being dropped several times. The M.C.C. keeper, Benson, was struck on the face by a ball from Nichols, and he retired, Duleepsinhji keeping the wickets. \ With 100 up, Gough and Rowe hit put, playing bright cricket: There was an- exciting finish, with thirty minutes to play and thirty runs wanted. The crowd were cheering every-run. There was a great demonstration when Gough passed his century, which is the highest score made for the State of Queensland against an English team.
