There was keen competition from the Japanese, German and Yorkshire buyers; The market was very firm at the closing rates of last week. Comebacks and crossbreds maintained good levels. Greasy merinos sold to 271 pence. OIL SHARES SLUMP. SYDNEY, February 11. Blenheim oil shares dropped by 25s to 70s to-day. The market was unable to find buyers. Taranaki oil shares dropped 1/3 5/-. GISBORNE, February 12. The Taranaki Company’s oil report for the week ended February 9 : Gisborne, No .2 well, progress delayed by caving.; pulling back 84411. diameter casing and drilling out cavings in well. Deliveries New Zealand this week 1900 tons ■ in store 4200 tons. Australian finest salted 180/ 182/, unsalted 182/186/. Market very quiet. Argentine finest unsalted 180/ 182/. Danish 189/ f.0.b., 194/96 spot. Market steady. Dutch unsalted 204/ 208/, Polish salted 176/178/, unsalted 178/180/. Market firm, supplies short. Cheese. —New Zealand white 90/91/, coloured 94/. Deliveries New Zealand this week 47,000 crates; in. store 21,500 crates. Canadian white 108/112/, coloured 106/110/. Market slow. Retail prices unchanged. English finest farmers’ 142/144/. The Port Auckland and Tainui finished discharging butter on February 1. The Hertford commenced the discharge of butter on February 1 and finished on February 6. The discharge of cheese was commenced on February 1 and finished on February 2.
