A message from Demonte, California, states that Midwick (Californian team) defeated the Australian-Ha-waiian polo team by 11 to 10. GOLF. NEW YORK, February 11. A message from Pensacola states that Smith won the 3500 dollar open golf tournament there to-day, with a total of 274. Kirkwood was thirteenth. CROQUET. At the social afternoon held by the Makura Croquet Club last Wednesday an enjoyable time was spent by all present. A golf croquet competition was won by Mrs Whibley, and Mrs Thomas was the winner of the putting. The weekly competition was also held, the scores being as follow:—Mrs Tennent 10, Mrs Thomas 10, Mrs Saywell 12, Miss Sheedy 12, Mrs Whibley 4, Mrs McQueen 4, Mrs Reynolds 8, Mrs Topliss 8, Mrs M. Phillips 8, Mrs Mercer 16, Mrs Haglund 16, Mrs A. Phillips 14, Mrs Fogarty 8. The trophies for this competition were won by Mesdames Mercer and Haglund. The competition will this week be held on Thursday instead of Wednesday.
