GREY COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary meeting of the Grey County Council was continued after the “Star” went to press yesterday, the following business being tranacted: —

An application was received from the West Coast Rugby League Centre asking that attention be given the by-road giving entrance to their grounds at Coal Creek. —Mr. Higgins was instructed to go into the matter. Mr. Higgins was appointed an additional delegate to the County Councils’ forthcoming conference in Reefton, on January 23. Cr. Kidd asked on behalf of Mr. Ross of Ngaher.e, that something be done to clear from slips the cattletrack to the old Croesus Mine. —The Engineer promised to look into the matter.

The Kumara Borough Council wrote asking that the Engineer attend to the Taramakau Bridge.—The Engineer explained that he would do so when possible. The matter of the expenditure on roads used by co-operative mines and the comparative revenue derived from the lattei* was gone into in committee. It was decided to defer discussion until next month’s meeting, the mineowners to be given adequate notice of the decision to allow them to attend and discuss their application for the reduction of royalties. A grant of £5 was made towards the cost of the opening ceremony of the new Crooked River Bridge.

The usual A. and P. Association grant of £5 was approved. The balance sheet for the year 1928-29 was read and adopted. The second Thursday in February was decided on as the date for the next meeting.
