Definite action on the application for the reinstatement of Tilden was postponed until February, by the executive of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, on Saturday. The New York Times’s sporting editor states: “If the Amateur Rules Committee finds that Tilden is chastened in spirit, and ready to promise that ho will conform with the letter and intent of amateur rules, his reinstatement may be expected to follow the executive committee meeting on February 8.” It is understood that at the meeting on Tuesday it was decided that Tilden should be sounded on his attitude to determine whether he had taken the lesson to heart. The new player writer rule has been approved by the executive committee, and will be voted on by the United States Lawn Tennis Association at the meeting in February, would make it impossible for any member of the United States International team to write for compensation or not.
