MEETINGS

DRUIDISM AT WESTPORT A meeting of the Buller Lodge U.A.O.D. was held on Saturday evening, Bro. T. Stannard A.D. presiding over a large attendance of members. Bro. Golding V.A. and Bro. J. McGreevey J.P.A. occupied their respective chairs. cu r Seventeen members of the Star or the West Lodge of Greymouth headed by Bro. J. Tennent, P.G.P. and nine members of the Millerton Lodge, were present and were greeted with the Druidic fire, led by Bro. Dr. Dunn P.D.P. . , The control of the Lodge was handed over to the officers of the Star of the West Lodge, Bro. G. Patterson as the A.D. presiding. Bro. Booth of Greymouth gave a very interesting account of the 'working and financial position of the Grand Lodge of the North Island District Lodges which included Marlborough, Nelson and the West Coast of the South Island. He was recorded a vote of thanks for his most interesting address. After the meeting closed, the members were entertained at the festive board, Bro. Stannard presiding, and being assisted by Bro. Ashton. Regret was expressed at the absence of Bro. Ted Ashton, of Greymouth, who in 1905, as the District President of the Coast, opened the Buller Lodge. The toast list comprised “The King” “Grand Lodge” proposed by Bro. Tennent, “The D.P.” proposed by Bro. Hart “The Visitors,” Bro. Shanks and responded to by Bros. Booth (Greymouth), Davis (Millerton) and Perkins (Reefton), “The Buller Lodgs” proposed by Bro. Saunders, “The Juvenile Lodge” proposed by the A.D. During the evening items were given by Bros. S' Moloney (who presided at the piano), Wilson (song, “The Old Rustic Bridge”). W. Hall, of Greymouth (recitation, “The Irish Fire Brigade”), D. Moloney (recitation, “The Charleston Football Fight,”), and W. Hart (recitation, “Murphy Shall Not Sing To-night.”). The ringing of the firebell just on midnight brought a happy gathering to a hasty termination.
