IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP (United Service.) (By Cable—Press Assn—Copyright.) LONDON, May 29. The Irish open golf championship contest is being played on the Royal County Down course at Newcastle. The leading first round scores were: — Ernest Whitcome 68, Abe Mitchell, Len Holland, T. H. Cotton, J. O’Neill, H. C. Jolly 73, Compston 73, Rufus Stewart 80. GREYMOUTH LADIES’ CLUB. The Coronation Medal Match was played at Ornoto yesterday, the links being heavy and rough. Following are the scores returned. — Miss N. Tennent 105, handicap 20; 85. Miss Coates 108—20—88. Miss Kettle 106—17—89. Mrs Hannan 100 —10 —90. Mrs Cunningham 112 —17 —95. On Saturday next the L.G.U. Medal Match will be played in the senior’ division, and a One Club Match in the junior division.
