REEFTON NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.)
REEFTON, May 31. The health of Mr Robert Clarke is causing his friends concern. Air Joseph Steele, one of the oldest residents of the district, leaves on Saturday for Wellington, where he purposes to reside with his daughter, Mrs Jas. Maloney. Mi* Steele has witnessed the growth of Reefton from the bush to the present township, and is about the last of the old pioneers. During his long stay in the district he has enjoyed the respect and confidence of all with whom he came in contact. Air I Paterson left for Christchurch on Tuesday. Among the improvements recently effected in the town must be remarked the handsome new window put in Miller’s drapery establishment and the additions and improvements to their light and street verandah. The erection of a light at the Bank of New Zealand corner has supplied a longfelt want. Another portion of Broadway in need of lighting is the north side of Broadway at the scene of the recent fire, and the old fences on the south side should either be reconstructed or demolished, as at present they are in a disgraceful state.
