RUNANGA CO-OP. SOCIETY
LADIES’ GUILD FORMED. Well known as ope of the most successful trading enterprises .on the West Coast, the Runanga Co-operative Society, .is endeavouring to achieve still further progress. The latest innovation of the Society is the formation of a Ladies’ Guild. This was accomplished last evening, when about thirty, enthusiastic ladies attended a mc<ting held in the Druids’ Hall, Runanga. Mr. T. Bowes (secretary of the Society) gave an interesting explanation on the objects of such Guilds, and read a page .from the history of the Bolton (England) Cooperative Society, dealing with the formation of a Ladies’ Guild. He felt sure,/he said, that such an organisation would be of great assistance to the Runanga Society. After a general discussion it was unanimously decided that a Ladies’ Guild be formed. Mrs. J. Hickson was voted to the chair, and called for nominations for the various offices. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President: Mrs. W. Wright. Secretary: Mrs. M. Southward. Committee: Mesdames W. Robertson, R. Gore, W. Wainman, H. Speakman, W. Murray, L. Radcliff, W. Murphy, J. Winstanley, and F. G. Pope. It was resolved that meetings be held fortnightly, the first to take place on June 13.
