— GREYMOUTH FIGURES During the month of May 8.69 inches of rainfall was registered, falling on 19 days. The maximum fall was 1.65 inches bn May 15, The rainfall for the ,corresponding month in 1927 was 10.59 inches oh 15 days. For the first five months of this year rain was recorded on 75 days, the total being 38.11 inches of rain. The records for 1927 gho,w,that for the corresponding period there were 73 days on whiffii rain fell,, the total registered being 45.27. The maximum fall on one day was 3,50 in ..January 1927. The maximum for 1928 so far was 2.41 inches, in March. i SHIPPING Twenty-five steamers, having a net tonnage Of 15,792, and two auxiliary schooners, having a tonnage of 215, entered the port of Greymouth during May 1928. For the same period those cleared were, twenty-eight steamers of 18,726 tons net,, and two auxiliary schooners of 215 tons. BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS The number of births registered in Grey mouth for the month was 29, marriages 8, marriages by registrar 4, deaths 3. The figures for the corresponding period in 1927, were, births 21, marriages 4, marriages by registrar 1, deaths 18. CUSTOMS DUTY. ♦ The amount of duty collected at the Custom House at Greymouth, for the month bf May, 1928, was £3367 10/6, which is a £541 15/6 decrease on the amount collected for the corresponding month last year, that total being £3909 6/-.
