BOWLING TOURNAMENT
WHIBLEY OUT OF RINKS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 16. In the post sectional play in the rinks championship at the Dominion Bowling Tournament to-day,, twentyfive rinks were eligible, but at the end of the day’s play the number was reduced to eighteen, those eliminated being Sampson (Timaru), Efford (Edgeware), Lomas (Kelburn), Ferguson (Balmacewan), Adams (Blenheim), Atkinson (United), Gilbert (Seatown), Whibley (Greymouth), West (Christchurch), Marks (United), Smith (Dunedin). To-morrow the doubles competition, for which 208 pairs have entered, will be commenced on seventeen greens, and it will be continued on Wednesday, when an endeavour will be made to find green winners where possible. The post-sectional play in the rinks competition will be continued on Thursday. Those still left in the singles and pairs competitions will be matched against one another on Thursday, provided they are not engaged also in the rinks championship. TO-DAY’S RESULTS. Greymouth (W. Graham and D. McKay) 14. Spreydon (W. B. Allan and W. Milner( 18 v. Runanga (T. Bowes and W. Brown) 13. Christchurch (A. B. Boyd and E. Eales) 22 v. Greymouth (E. R. Moss and W. Fletcher) 15. United (T. W. Lewis and 23 v. Runanga (W. Southward and J. S. Rae) 21. St. Clair (W. J. McKittrick and C. Tilburn) 19 v. Greyipouth (W. Scott and A. H. Carey) 18.
WEST COAST TOURNAMENT. A meeting of the executive committee of the West Coast Bowling Association, in connection with the tournament, which will be played on the Greymouth and Runanga greens on February 6 to 10, was held in the Greymouth Club’s pavilion last evening. Present: Messrs J. Ring, J. Truscott, A. E. Kilgour, W. Blair, and J. Crookes. Entries were received from different clubs in the North and South Island, 25 rinks and 52 pairs nominating. The Committee will have the draw completed in a few days.
