CYCLING. (Per Frees Aseociation.) MASTERTON, January 17. The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Sub-Centre to-night received an application from T. Oakley, for recognition of him time, 7 minutes 13 seconds, established at the Wairarapa Caledonian Society’s sports on January 2, as a New Zealand grass track cycle record for three miles. Three watches agreed, and the course was certified at full distance. It was decided to approve of the application and forward it to the Wellington Centre. YACHTING. AUCKLAND, January 16. The second heat of the Cornwall Cup was won by Otago, the finishing time being 1/41/5. Wellington was second in 1/41/2.

RIFLE SHOOTING. MASTERTON, January 16. A special meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association Executive to-night considered the report of the conference of the Wairarapa and Wellington Associations, which met to discuss the proposal by Wellington that Wairarapa should this year hold the annual Papawai meeting at Trentham, to enable the visiting Australian riflemen to get practice on the Trentham Range prior to the National Meeting. The Executive decided to hold the Wairarapa meeting at Papawai, as usual, on February 20 and 21, at which the Australians would be invited to compete, and to extend the programme to seven matches and increase the prize money. It was further decided to give the Wellington Association every assistance to organise the teams match to be fired at Trentham on Saturday, February 19, and to send a Wairarapa team to compete against N.S.W., Victoria and Wellington.

BOXING NEW YORK, January 16. Grime makes his first appearance at Philadelphia to-night, when he meets Abbie Gordon, the local lefthander, in the first preliminary bout of ten rounds. Gordon is. regarded as a good fighter.
