FRENCH SWINDLE REVEALED
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.! PARIS, October 13. Some astonishing pari-mutual frauds have occurred at Longchamps and Auteuil racecourses. They have resulted in the arrest of five men, whose nefarious profits are reckoned at several millions of francs in the last two years.
They employed assistants in issuing betting vouchers at the pari-mutual booths at salaries of fifty francs daily. They kept several blank tickets bearing the number of eacli horse in the race, and directly the result of the race was known, sufficient money was laid on the winner to cover the losses on the winning tickets and < leave a margin.
