DAMAGE IN AUSTRALIA.

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association), (By Cable —Press Assn. —Copyright.) SYDNEY, October 14. Bush fires continue to rage along the north coast of New South Wales, causing extensive damage. So far there arcno fatalities, but unless the blaze is speedily checked, widespread devastation will be caused, Telephonic and telegraphic communication are badly interrupted. BRISBANE, October 14.

The bush fires now completely encircle Brisbane, and a thick pall of smoke has settled over the city, making it impossible to see more than the length of a street, while on the river the position is more acute, and navigation is rendered extremely difficult.

TORRENTIAL \AINS

ADELAIDE, October 14.

Following on torrential rains, flood waters are rushing down the river Torrens, and they are expected to reach the city to-night. The residents in the low-lying suburbs have been warned to evacuate their homes. HOBART, October 14. Continuous heavy rains throughout the East Coast districts have resulted in all the rivers being flooded.

LAUNCESTON’S PLIGHT.

HOBART, October 15.

• Launceston is experiencing the worst floods known for twenty years. All the low-lying land adjacent- to me city is inundated, and stock has been removed to higher ground. Some business premises on the watei front aie flooded. Shipping on the Tamar is experiencing considerable difficulty.

DROUGHT LOSSES

BRISBANE, October 15

It is estimated that between five and six million sheep in Central and Northern Queensland, were lost as the result of the drought which has just broken. Losses in cattle, due to the same cause were also very heavy.
