LEAGUE OF NATIONS
ALLOTTING THE COST
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association)
LONDON. October 13
As a result of the entry of Germany to the League of Nations, the latter’s budget for the new financial year will be divided into 1016 units, instead of the previous 937 units, says the “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent. The British Empire’s share will be 258 units, or just over a quarter of the total, while the Empire’s relative position, with a single seat on the new Council, will be even more remarkable.
This fact is occupying the attention of the Dominion delegates at present in London. The Empire occupies the same position as Salvador, which has one unit of financial responsibility. South American states secure three Council seats, with a total of twentyone units, compared with India’s 56. Canada’s 35, and Australia's 27 units of financial responsibility. France and her four military allies, Belgium, Poland, Roumania and Czecho-Slovakia, obtain five seats for a total of 180 units, as against the single seat reserved for Britain, India and the Dominions combined.
