SCULLING. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 9. An interchange of telegrams, in Which America strongly appealed to British sportsmen, has resulted in the sculler Beresford reversing his decision not to row Hoover, the American, for the Philadelphian Gold Cup. The race lias now been fixed for Putney on July 13. Beresford defeated Hoover in the Diamond Sculls at Healey. He asserts that Hoover declined the conditions for the Gold Cup, which Beresford, as holder, was entitled to frame, namely, desiring the race to take place during Henley week. Hoover desired longer training. Further complications also arise from the British Association maint/iiiiing that the Diamond Sculls, not the Philadelphian Gold Cup, carries the world’s title. McKNIGHT v. TROWERN At AVellington, on Monday evening, McKnight and Tiowern will occupy the ring. Stace was originally signed to meet Tiowern, but met with an injury, AlcKnight being substituted.
