(Our Own Correspondent). KUAIARA, July 11. Mr Spiers left Kumara for Welling; ton on Thursday morning last bn private business. He expects> to return on Tuesday evening. Dr Booth, the newly-appointed medical officer for Kumara, accompanied by,,her mother, arrived in town on Thursday last; 1 Mi- Keating, Grey County Clerk, accompanied by Mr Sloss, Grey Traffic Inspector, paid a visit to Kumara on Thursday in connection with the heavy traffic licenses. It is the intention of the inspector to rigidly enforce the Act in respect to both heavy traffic licenses as well as drivers’ licenses, so that it isi advisable for all those who have so fur failed to comply with the new' regulations, to do so at once. Master Dave Forster, who has been seriously ill, has so far recovered ,as to be able to leave his bed.

Dr Fisher, who recently resigned, her pbsklion in Kuimara in order to pursue her/studies in London, expects to leave New Zealand on July 25. The annual meeting of the Kumara Fire Brigade took place on Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance. The Secretary read the balance sheet, which showed a credit of over £BO. During the evening a number of toasts were proposed and honoured in the usual way. The Mayor, who was present, eulogised tho work of the Brigade, and with his customary generosity, promised to instal the electric light in the social hall. •A meeting of those- concerned in tho Jubilee celebrations was held on Wednesday evening. The Mayor occupied . the chair. He said, since the initial meeting he had received several suggestions from Mr Evans re carrying out the programme. He had also a letter from the Hokitika. Motor Cycle Club. The suggestion to form small committees was,- he thought, wise, anti could be gone' into after the general committee had been formed. Mr Peever concurred. Air Gilbert was of the opinion it would be impossibe to entertain the public for a whole week. He considered two days were quite sufficient, It was a matter of finance, and he suggested getting up an ait union on a big 1 scale. After a- good -deal of discussion it was decided that the celebrations extend over three days, viz., March 1,2, and 3. Mr Gilbert was appointed to organise a committee to carry out the sports programnie. Messrs Ford and Burger v.ere appointed to canvass the town in order to see what financial support would be forthcoming from the business people. Mr Pamment was appointed secretary pro tern. After many weeks an inmate of the Greymouth Hospital, Mr Alanzoni,-of Calaghans, has so far recovered as to be enabled to return to his home. The annual football ball took place last night, and despite the fact that several counter attractions of a similar nature were on in various parts of the district, the function was well attended. Miss S. Stewart is expected home to-day after spending a holiday in Christchurch.
