BULLER NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.) WESTPORT, May 22. The Buller Caledonian Society decided last evening to entertain Sir Harry and Lady Lauder at tea at 6 o’cock next Wednesday evening in the Elite tea rooms, and to invite the Mayor and Member for the District, as well as the Chief, to say' something in welcoming the distinguished Scottish guests. Yesterday’s hockey matches were played under favourable weather conditions. In the men’s fixture, United defeated St. John’s by two goals to one. In the ladies’ fixtures; School defeated Westport by five to two, and Ramblers and Unitods played a ' drawn game, each side scoring a goal. The school team played a very aggressive game, and with a few more matches will have a combination that will make them hard to beat. An exhibition of drill and a Paddy’s Market was held at the school yesterday, with a large attendance of parents. The pupils, in classes, acquitted themselves very creditably, and gave the visitors a good impression both of the character and effectiveness of their work. For Paddy’s Market there was a great supply of goods, vegetables being in particularly strong supply. Over £5O was taken. The money, or portion of it, will provide the balance for/ the fund to erect a much needed sheltershed.
