WELLINGTON, J„, w 17. A deputation from the New Zealand fruitgrowers’ Association waited upon tne Minister for Railways (Hon. u. H Guthrie) to urge upon him the need for better ventilated vans for the carnage of fruit by rail. ply the Minister stated tnat tho Railway Department was taking measures, to alter the existing fiuit vans so as to give greater ventilation.

Ihe case arose out of damage done by a fire to plaintiffs’ land near Ongaruo the plaintiffs alleging the fires were caused by sparks from the defendants’ bush tram engines. The defence was a denial of responsibility, or, alternately that, if they are responsible the damages are crossly exaggerated. The case is proceeding.
