BOXING

GREYMOUTH ASSOCIATION

Mr. Chris. Nissen presided over a largely attended meeting of the Greymouth Boxing Association last evenin", when a large amount of business was transacted. \ Final arrangements were made m connection with the meeting between Havilah Uren and Harry Holmes, members generally expressing the opinion that this should be the best of the lightweight contests yet decided hero. Mr. W. Cadman was appointed to referee this bout. _ Correspondence was received trom Wilcox (Waiuta), G. Leitch (Blackball) and "Bull" Neilson (Blackball), all asking for special bouts. . After some discussion, it was decided to match Leitch and Neilson in a sixround two-minute bout on the nignt of the Uren-Holmes fight. These bids have met twice previously at Blackball when Neilson has gained the decision each time by a narrow margin of points, but on each occasion opinion has been divided as to the correctness of the decision. 'lt was decided, providing sufficient inducement is forthcoming, to get a special train on the Otira line on the night of the 28th. Prices for the Holmes—Uren right were fixed at £1 sta.ge (for which seats can be reserved), circle 10s, and 7s M and 4s hall. It was pointed out that these prices were considerably below those charged in other parts of the dominion for similar contests. Correspondence was also received from P/>ach (an American boxer now m Australia), Colin Bell (who fought Jamito and other Philipino boxers_ in Sydnev), and Les Gleeson, all asking to be matched under the Greymoui ; i Association. After wane discussion it was decided that nothing be done th> matter in the meantime. , The matter of holding a special amateur tournament at an early date, wh-n it is proposed to bring oyer ««»veml leading amateurs from Cfrist.church, was .discussed, but nothing definite was fW°d.
