MEMORIAL TREES
SCHEME DISAPPROVED
BY COUNTY COUNCIL
TOO EXPENSIVE
In a recent letter to the Grey County Council, Mr T. E. Y. Sectdon, M.P., gave details of the scheme adopted at Oamarn for planting' trees throughout the County in memory of fallen soldiers, and recommended that a similar scheme he adopted in the Grey county. This letter, which was held over previously, came up for discussion at yesterday’s meeting of the Council, the Chairman (Mr J. Irvine) presiding. Mr Eeddon also offered to supply the necessary trees should the scheme he.approved. Councillors generally were of the opinion that such a scheme would not he suitable for the Grey County. It was likely to prove very expensive.
Cr Robinson moved that Mr Seddou he thanked for his offer, and that it he painted out to him that the cost of planting- and maintenance of the trees is more than the Council can entertain at the present time.
The motion was seconded by the Chairman and carried.
