GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS

RATING CLAUSE OPPOSED

BY COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the meeting of the Grey County Council held yesterday, the Chairman (Mr. J. Irvine) presiding, the Clerk read a report on the proceedings at the recent conference between the Harbour Board and representatives of the various local bodies in regard to the Government’s proposals for the control of the Grey Barbour. The Chairman moved ; “That this Council strongly objects to the Gocomment giving tile Harbour Board rating powers over the Grey County, and that a circular be sent to the whole of the South Island members of Parliament," asking them to oppose the proposals.” The motion was seconded by Cr. Donncllan and carried.
