NELSON BOARD,

MEETING YESTERDAY,

(Own Correspondent.) ■ ■ NELSON, July 26. The Education Board meeting was held to-day. The Education Department advised that a subsidy of £1 for every £2 raised for ,the erect.on of baths would be pa d by the Department ; also that subsidies for*the erection of a honours Board would be discontinue!. The Board decided to maive application to the Department for prov iding organising teachers on the West Coast wit.i motor cars in Leu of motor cycles. Applications made by the various committees were dealt with as follows : Little Grey : Application for increased allowance for conveyance of children. —Granted. Blacks .Point: Supply of shrubs for limiting school grounds. —Granted. The Stockton Committee was authorised to invite tenders for the erection of a shelter shod ; also the' Board to .apply for a grant from the Dtpartment. . The improvement of the school grounds at Punakaiki was referred to the architect. The Inangahua Landing Committee was requested to forward estimated cost.

No tender was accepted for the erection of a school at Mawheraiti. The matter was left in the hands of the Board's architect. It was decided that the Reefton Committee should be informed that the Department had not notified the Board of any refusal for the erection of new school buildings and that application should be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to lease the Education reserves in the vicinity of the present Reefton school for use as a playground. Little Grey: A grant was authorised for the extension of a shelter shed. The Department wrote asking the Board's views regarding the alternative proposal of appointing itinerant teachers to establish hostels in convenient centres to house pupils who live too far away from a school.

Mr. Parry was appointed as Inspector of Works in connection with the building of the technical high school at Westport.

Messrs Smith, Boyes and Scantlebury were appointed the Board’s representatives on the Board of Managers for the Nelson Technical School.

The Department wrote approving of 'the appointment of certain pupil teachers as assistant relieving teachers. Leave of absence was granted Miss Morrison (Wakefield), Mr. Goodger (Reefton). Mr. Mclntyre’s report regarding the drainage of school grounds at Granity was received and adopted. TEACHER SHIP APPLICATIONS. Kongahu, solo teacher, Air. Cressy. Wakefield, assistant Miss Miller. Whangamoa, household, Aliss Edgar. APPOINTMENTS AND TRANSFERS Aliss Conway, fourth assistant, West port; Mr. Watson, fourth assistant, secondary department, Westport; Miss Kearns, second assistant. Brown; Miss Groohv second assistant. Tabaka ; Miss Droggmuller, sole - teacher, Tutaki ; M'ss McEarlrne household, Mangles Vp.llev; M’ss Trim, sole teacher A riki ; Miss Edgar, . household. Whangamoa; Mr. Bowden.
