DI'NEDIN, This Day.—Following the extremely hot weather, disastrous waterspouts yesterday afternoon .swept over the lower regions of the Clyde-Cromwell Gorge, The spout struck the high country on a hill about the Champagne 'Mills, cutting on the Otago Central Railway. It extended right clown to the <,':\\U: Flat, which now presents an awr inspiring spectacle. Desolation was wrought on the property of Mr Doig, an r.reba.''dist. a portion of the house consequently Icing swept away. A large area ~f the orchard is smothered with large stones and debris. The railway line is seriously damaged and also the main road, while the teleerapjv hues to Cromwell are down in teverai places, cutting comniunication ami suspending traffic from Cromwell. It is a serious matter for woolgrowers, orchardists and farmers. WOMAN KILLED. DUNEDIN, This Day.—Mary Murray, aged 34, wife, of a ganger on the railway, was killed this morning while .shunting operations were in progress in the railway yard at Stilling.
