COAL IMPORTS
SINCE THE STRIKE. BI TELEGRAPH —PEE PREEB ASSOCIATIONWELLINGTON, This Day. With the arrival on Tuesday of the coal laden steamer Knight of the Thistle from Calcutta approximately 134,000 tons of coal have been imported into New Zealand from Newcastle and distant countries within the past three months, the recent strike being responsible for such large importations. Special enquiries made by an "Evening Post" representative give the following list of vessels which have arrived in this country : —Yinstra (from Newcastle) 6,500 tons; Maisic (from Delagoa B.iy) 6,500 tons, Kilbride (from Newcastle) 5,000 tons; Kwanto Mam, two cargoes, (from Newcastle) 10,000 tons; Twickenham (from Newcastle) 6,500 tons; Svcrrc (from Newcastle) 11,000 tons; Thode Fogeland (Newcastle), 5,300 tons ; Harflete (Newcastle), 7,400 tons ; Boveric (Newcastle), 6,000 tons ; Brisbane (Newcastle) 11,000 tons; Titania, barque, (Newcastle), 1,850 tons; Waitemate (Newcastle), 5,000 tons ; Ngatoro, Ngakutu and Ngahere (Newcastle), 8,000 tons; Queensland (Newcastle), 2.500 tons; Whakalane (Newcastle), 2,000 tons ; Achlibster (Calcutta), 6,500 tons; Strathdene (Calcutta). 6,500 tons; Border Knight (Japan), 6,500 tons; Hans B. (Delagoa Bay), 6-500 tons; Hornsfels (l)eiagoa Bay), 6,000 tons; Knight of the Thistle (Calcutta), 10,000 tons. The cargoes by the Den of Wini, which is bringing 7,000 tons from Calcutta, and the barque Rags (6,500 tons from Hull) will probably be the last of the far overseas coal.
The Hercules, the Inga, Waipori, Ngahero and Twickenham are all on their way from Newcastle.
