SWIMMING CARNIVAL

HELD AT REEFTON. The weather w:>.s all that could be desired yesterday, and th water fairly warm for swimming sports at Rcefton, but owing to the Black's Point .school picnic being held on the same day the attendance was not as large as was expected. Nevertheless there were large fields for all events, and a fair attendance of spectators, the fair sex preponderating. The swimming and diving of the competitors was excellent. The tub race brought out ten competitors and caused much amusement, Tvvo girls also competed, but failed to negotiate the course, though, with practice, later in the evening they became quite adept. The officials, Messrs Sherlock and Ryan (starters), Napier (haiidicapper), Cohen (judge), Hcslop (secretary), and Gordon (bath caretaker) gave every satisfaction. The following are. the results :

Diving for coins—7 entries—Powlcy 1, Hampden 2. Boy's Handicap, 25 yards—9 entries — Coxall (3 sees) I, Coombes (4 sees) 2. Girls' Race, 25 yards—ll/ Lewis 1, D. Leßero 2. These two girls give promise of becoming great swimmers. Boys' . All-Round Diving Competition, 7 entries—Lewis 1, JMc.Mahon and Walters dead heat for second place. Schoolboys' Championship, 25 yards—--4 entries—McElwcc 1. Nahr 2. Time 20 sees.

Tub Race —10 entries—Banks was the. only competitor to propel his tub without capsizing across the baths. Greasy Pole —9 entries—Hampden 1, Kenny 2.
