W. Cameron, of Wellington, 100 yards swimming champion of New Zealand, attempted to lower his own record for the distance (53 4-sserd at the Municipal Baths to-night, but failed only by one second. He covered the first 33 1-3 yard? in a smart 15 seconds, and also cut the second lap out iu fast time, hut was unable to maintain tko pace.
