Ahugo crowd at the King Edward barracks witnessed a fight between Brian- McCleary (Christchurch), and Albert Pooley (Auckland) for the ship of New Zealand, and a purse of £195. The contest went the full lo rounds. McCleary was adjudged the winner on points. Pooley put up a good fight," but McCleary was too clever.
