WOMEN IN PARLIAMENT.
MOVEMENT IN AUSTRALIA. Sydney, March 25. Sooner or later it is certain that women will play a much more active part in politics in Australia than they have beon able to play hitherto. Women in Australia have, exercised tho franchise for many years. Yet they havo not been ablo so far to equal tho achievement of their sisters in. Britain, whero Parliamentary representation is concerned; the latter, dospitc tho fact that their right to voto has only recently been recognised, already boast of two members in the House "of Commons, and there is talk of many women candidates at the next British dlections. So far the only woman moinber of Parliament in Australia is Mrs Cowan, M.L.A., of Western Australia. There is a, movement on foot, however, to secure the representation of women in tho Victorian Parliament, and in tho Federal area as woll. The whole question has been discussed by the Victorian Housewives' Association, which has decided that steps bo taken to call a conference of all tho women's organisations interested to discuss ways' and moans of socuring tho direct representation of women in Parliament. Tho conference will probably be held within a fortnight.
