GALLIPOLI DIARY.
GIFT TO TURNBULL LIBRARY. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 29. Observing some weeks ago the cabled statement that Sir lan Hamilton had presented a portion of the manuscript of his Gallipoli diary to the Mitchell Library, Sydney, the Hon. W. H. Triggs, M.L.0., wrote to Sir lan Hamilton, asking if he would confer a similar favour on the Turnbull Library, Wellington. Sir lan Hamilton has now sent the original draft of a large portion of his second dispatch on the original draft of a large portion of his second dispatch on the Gallipoli campaign, together with an accompanying letter, m which he says: "Nowadays, when so much must be done by shorthand and typing, it is by no means easy to meet your wish. However, I have dug out a bit of my second dispatch, which might some day be interesting t othe historical bookworm. The way these things were done was,-1 first of all dictated the story, then corrected the typed sheets. The whole of a. portion of the M.S.S. I send you was done at Gallipoli, and all the marks, cuttings out and writing are by my own hand." Mr Triggs has handed the manuscript to the Minister of Internal Affairs, with a request that it be placed in the Turnbull Library, adding, "I am sure you agree with me that Sir lan Hamilton has made a most generous and valuable contribution to the store of original records, in which thp Turnbull Library already, is so rich."
