LYTTON STREET SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING LAST
NIGHT
The Committee of the Lytton street school met last night, when thero were present: Messrs J. AY. Bramwell (chair), S. Andrew, J. R. Lochhead, and G. B. Henley. Leave of absence was granted to Mr W. G. Hicks.
The Hedamaster's report stated the number on the roll to bo' , with an average attendance of 253.5.
The Chairman " reported that a cheque had been received from the Education Board for expense of water supply installation, also that a donation of £1 ls towards the prize fund had been received from Mr J. Prior and prize books from Mesdames Prior, Newman, and Bramwell.—Letters of thanks to be duly forwarded.
It was resolved to present the dux of tho school, Miss Thelma Fowles, with a medal, and to authorise the expenditure of £10 for prizes.
As a large number of the senior scholars made a full attendance during the year, the Committee funds did not allow for attendance prizes for all, and it decided, to give attendance prizes only iii the primary classes.
The Inspector's reports on the annual and Proficiency examinations were received, and the results were considered satisfactory, the proficiency passes being particularly creditable, both in numbers and merit.
The Committee decided to ask the Chairman of the Board, Mr Fred. Pirani, to present the prizes at 10 o'clock on Friday morning. Several of the Proficiency pupils earned high marks, and Thelma Powles, aged 13 years, won the distinction of obtaining the highest number of marks awarded in Proficiency examinations throughout the Wanganui Education l/istrict. Out of 2l pupils presented for'examination, 16 obtained Proficiency and two Competency passes. It was resolved to congratulate Mr H. C. Stewart, Headmaster, on tho excellent results of his earnest and able teaching during tho year. _ A_Jettcr was received from the Board notifying the appointment of Mr Hostick to the staff of tho school.
The Committee heard with much regret of the probability of losing Miss Gray's services in the future, and it was decided to ask the Board to allow her to remain on the staff during part of next year. Miss Gray has proved herself to be a very efficient teacher, and parents and Committeemen desire that she may still continue to teach at Lytton street school.
