Pirani presented "t.~.e pri- I zes at the Marton District High School yesterday, aud spoke for a short time to those present. j The girl pupils of tho Marton Technical School gave an evidence of the efficiency of the instruction they receive in the domestic arts yesterday, when they invited the Chairman of the Education Board to afternoon tea, and they also entertained the pupils of the opposite sex. A delicious repast was provided, and in thanking the girls for their kindly invitation and capital fare, Mr Pirani spoke in high terms of the manner in which the entertainment had been prenared, and suggested that it might be pos- ! sible the old axiom about finding the * road to a man's heart would find its fulfilment at their function. Those present gave Mr Pirani a round of cheers as he left. Very many of our readers will learn with regret of the death of one of the earliest settlers of Feilding, Mr G. C. Jlill, who passed away at Palmcrstoci on Monday last. Mr Hill came to this district in the year ISBI and practised as a surveyor, lie was the first Town Cleik of Feilding, anel held the position for about twenty years, retiring some eight years ago. Of la-'-e he has resided in Palmerston, where his daughter (Mrs Dudley Prior) lives, " and she was with him to the last.
