NEWS FROM SURROUNDING DISTRICTS.
KIMBOLTON. (Our Own Correspondent.) A good practise of the Orchestral Society was held on Monday night, some good work being done. On Tuesday a very pleasant social evening was held at the Debating Society. Rev. Mr Cassell occupied the chair. Previous to the meeting it waß decided that the following members take part in the debate against the Apiti Club: — Messrs Astbury, Crabb, J. Capper, and Wallace. The following programme was then rendered, after which a generous supper was provided. Between fifty and sixty members were present: — Miss Jackson, overture ; Miss V. Mcßeth, solo ; Miss Sandilands, violin solo; Mr J. Capper, song; Mr Astbury, reading; Rev. Mr Mayo, Bong; Mr Mason, recitation ; Mr Baynes, song ; Miss Sandilands, violin solo; Mr Wallace, Bong ; Mr Crabb, song ; Mr Fowler, song. Next Tuesday is an evening for debate, two interesting subjects coming tinder discussion. The Golf links were exceedingly well attended last Saturday, some thirty or forty members being dispersed over the green swards. The ladies' match resulted in a win for Mrs Pratt, wlio elected to take the golf bag. Next Saturday a match (ladies') is to be played off for a golf club. The ladies of the Presbyterian Church have again undertaken the task of further reducing the small balance of debt still owing on the Church. Friends from Feuding have kindly undertaken to assist. A conversazione is to be held on Wednesday, 26th June. During the course of the evening refreshments are to be provided, and an effort put forth to provide a good evening's amusement.
