tPEE PBBBB ASSOCIATION.] Gisborne, May 21. The forenoon was observed as a half-holiday for the reception of the Governor. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance of the public. The reception took place at the Trafalgar Rotunda. Here addresses of welcome from country and borough councils were presented to the Governor, who presented _ the prizes won at a shooting competition to members of the Gisborne rifles. A public levee was subsequently held. In the afternoon His Excellency proceeded by train to Te Karaka and opened a further section of the railway to Puna, the line being now 24 miles _ from Gisborne. This evening he will be entertained at a dinner by the Mayor and Councillors. Reference to the Colonial Conference was made by the Governor in reply to an address to-day. His Excellency said that, although no doubt, many subjects of great importance to the British race had been left unsettled, that, in his opinion, was bound to occur ; for the re-organi-sation of the Empire to suit modern needs must and he ventured to say ought to be a gradual and deliberately considered process, but the work accomplished by the free discussion of vital topics and the enthusiastic reception of the Colonial delegates must have advanced by several stages that perfect understanding and concrete unity which we all desire.
