ANOTHER FIRE.
About 1.30 this morning a fire was discovered in the buildiDg owned and occupied by Messrs J. Valentine & Son, Manchester Street, and used as their joinery and jobbing workshop. When the alarm was given the fire had a very strong hold, and the members of the Brigade, who arrived promptly, devoted their whole attention to the State School building. The fire was allowed to burn itself out as it was detached, and the Brigade found it impossible to check the flames. The stock in the building was large and for the most part of an inflammable character. The loss in machinery and tools is considerable. The origin of the fire is unknown for Mr J. Lowe, an employee, left everything apparently safe at five o'clock yesterday afternoon. In our correspondence column Mr Newman, Captain of the Fire Brigade, has a letter dealing with the apathy of the byestanders, and other details. The Imperial Company had a risk of £250 on the building and contents.
