SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

1 The final ordinary monthly meeting of the present School Committee was held last evening. Present — Messrs J. Cobbe (chairman), E. Cowles, E. Goodbehere, G. Bartholomew, R. H. Wilson, and Rev. Innes Jones. The head teacher at the Lytton Street School, Mr Wylie, reported that the average attendance at his school for the post month was 111*7. Mr Hill, headmaster, reported that the number of pupils on the rolls at the Manchester Street High School was 407, and the average attendance 858-6. The Secretary stated that the Bank balance was 10s 4d, and the liabilities £8 3s Id. It was decided to apply to the Government for a banner for the flagstaff presented by Mr Bartholomew to the Lytton Street School. The chairman pointed out that notwithstanding the promise of the Education Board, Pupil Teacher Gould, of Palmerston N., had not been transferred to the Lytton Street School, and in consequence that school was under a disadvantage. It was resolved to again approach the Board on the subject. After considering the report to be presented at the meeting of householders on the 28th inst., the committee adjourned.
