THE TOWN BOARD MEETS AUGUST MEETING HELD GENERAL BUSINESS Present at Hie. August meeting of the Tuakau Town Board were: Messrs 11. A. Madill (chairman), A. F. Eseoll, G. Cilifiour, G. F. Souness, A. Wright, M. A. Cruiekshank and M. R. 14. McCahan (town clerk). An apology for absence was received from Mr Win. Barnaby. Prior to Ihe commencement of the business, the chairman referred to the loss sustained by the district through tlie passing of Mr and Mrs Emmett Dromgool. A motion of" sympathy with the relatives was passed in silence. On the motion of Mr Wright, seconded by Mr Cruiekshank, the .action of the-chairman in arranging with the Franklin County Council .for grading and metalling of Whaugarala road and in having four yards of metal placed on Factory road, was confirmed. The matter of clearing a section near Ihe railway station, which is being used as a rubbish dump, was left to the chairman and clerk to take what action was deemed necessary. The owner of a sectional the farmers' Trading Company’s corner is to be written to and requested to have same cleaned up and left in a tidy condition. It was decided to write to the Auckland Cilv Council seating that (the hoard agreed to the. present basis of distribution of heavy traffic fees. The action of the hall committee m having repairs and alterations made to the town hall and in appointing Mr G. Bakalich caretaker of the hall at a salary of £BO per annum, was confirmed. Additional metal was authorised to })e placed on Church street (8 yards), Catholic church side road (4 yards), Jellieoe Avenue (4 yards) and Ryder’s road (-4 yards)—a total of 20 yards.
The cemetery committee was given power to have the cemetery tidied up and noxious growth removed. The clerk was asked to write to the Minister of Railways drawing attention to the recent accident at the Harrisville road level crossing. A copy oi the letter is to he sent to the rnemhei for Raglan, the Hon. W. Lee Martin. The clerk was also asked to write to the Minister of Housing Construction drawing attention to the shortage of houses in Tuakau and the necessity of further Slate ouses being erected. Accounts totalling £B4 1 13s lid were passed for payment.
