OTAUA AMATEUR CLUB FIXTURE AT WAIUKU SUCCESSFUL OPEN MEEIJNG

The Otaua Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held a most successful open fixlure at Massey Park, W'aiuku, it; the presence of a good attendance. Excellent entries had been received but unfortunately as is the ease with so many country meetings, a number of intending competitors failed lo put in an appearance. Thanks to a big muster from Onehunga club, a mere sprinkling from and Pukekolie. and the home club, some fair fields faced the starter. The competition throughout was moat interesting and generally a successful Oxluvo resulted.

The star runner was D. Boryer of Onehunga, who won two and finished second in another event. W. Pussell’s two firsts and a second in the three cycle races showed tnat Ibis young Papakura cyclist is on l.luj improve and that he is striking his best form. A. Wallers (Otaua) won two field events, while Miss G. RarrihaU (Otaua) with a first and two seconds and as a memhe' 1 of the winning relay team had a successful day. Miss B. Lipseombe (Onehunga), the New Zealand lady' champion at putting the shot was not up to form in this even! but was in good fettle in Ihe sprints, gaining a first and a second. Miss E. Bloxham from the scratch mar a showed great stamina in winning the 130 yards ladies’ event in the fair time of 19 secs, against a strong wind. She only just gathered the field in on tiie tape, scoring a narrow bill meritorious win.
