Affairs of the Pukekohe Borough.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL GENERAL BUSINESS CLERK OF WORKS APPOINTED The No. 2 District Highways Council advised the Pukekohe Borough Council in meeting last ' week, that the appointment of Mr S. J. Clews, as clerk of works to supervise contract work on the Drury-Awhitu main highways— Pukekohe borough section—had been approved.
Present at the meeting were: His Worship (lie Mayor, (Mr John Routly), Messrs G. T. Panin, F. J. Morrow. G. H. Armstrong, R. Higgle, W. H. Adams and A. F. Brown, together with the (own clerk (Mr W. T. Cheesemun), the engineer (Mr F. 0. Turner) and the foreman (Mr S. J. Clews). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs P. T. Field and F. W. Stem bridge. The Tuakau centennial sub-commit-lee forwarded a supply of forms to be completed by eligible persons throughout Franklin who desire to attend the pioneer gathering on May 20. The Commissioner of Crown lands advised that control of Boose's Bush Scenic Reserve had been vested in the Pukekohe Borough Council. —The Mayor reported that certain fencing was necessary which would probably be undertaken by the trustees of an adjoining property and the council on a 50-50 basis. The works committee was asked to report on the work required.
Custodian’s Duties Mr R. Burns, Carlton Road, advised that he would act as custodian of the scenic reserve at Boose’s bush. —Mr Burns was thanked for acceding to the council's wish. The mayor and town clerk were asked to prepare a schedule of duties. The internal Affairs Department advised the extension of the life of the existing dog registrations to March 1. The Medical Officer of Health reported that a bacteriological examination of a sample of borough water proved same to be pure.
A complaint was received about an obnoxious odour and the prevalence of Hies in West Road caused by green pea vines and shells rotting. It was stated that the engineer had inspected tin site and had found conditions not 100 satisfactory.—The engineer’s action in giving the parties concerned nc lice to remove the cause of Ihe complaint, was confirmed. The Franklin Primary Schools’ Athletic Association was granted the use of Bledisloe Park on March 8 for 11 e annual sports. Formal resolutions regarding the raising of £2IOO, being 10 per cent of the drainage loan, were passed. The special rate to meet charges on the loan was fixed at 1-lid in the £ over the special drainage area.
The engineer was authorised to lay a strip of metal 12ft. wide in Birch road, and to kerb and channel Massey Avenue from the county office to the fire station. The kerbing and channelling in Wesley street was deferred.
Accounts amounting to £2127 11s were passed for payment.
