TREASURES
IN BOYS’ POCKETS In little boys’ pockets on washing day, Mothers must find a tremendous array Of strange little treasures and odd little parts Of things that delight little boys hearts. Knotted pieces of string, where they have tried Their nautical skill, with secret pride. For of course one day they’re going to be Sailors, and sail far out to sea. There may be screws, or bits of wire, An old watch spring, a piece of tyre. Or perhaps a knife with a broken blade. Rusty and old—but good to trade. Mothers, —I dare you to throw away One of these treasures on washing day. For your little boy —ere the day is done — M ill demand each treasure —one by one. —Marie Anderson.
