“THE GOOD OLD DAYS” This story was told to H.A.S., of the Dominion, while driving along the main highway near Palmerston North: “About 40 years ago there was a wedding in that house by the orchard. The farmer there was a ‘real toiler.’ On his wedding day the bride went to the house and awaited the coming of the parson. The groom, while waiting, went on ploughing. When the parson’s horse was sighted coming down the hill, the groom hitched the ploughreins and left his team standing. He went inside the house for the ceremon, without stopping even to remove his bowyangs, and half an hour later was back at his furrow, leaving his bride to cook the evening meal.”
Value of Clover. All clovers possess high feeding value, and are especially desirable for the production of meal, milk, wool, elc. Clover pasture is helpful and important for all farm animals, and well-cured clover hay. bright and with leaves intact. is an excellent I roughage for farm stock of all desI criptions. For dairy 'bows clover bay is unexcelled as a roughage unless by lucerne. Where well-cured clover hay furnishes one-half or more of the roughage the dairyman is able to cut the allowance of concentrates and materially reduce the cost of the ration. ! This roughage has the same high place ! for feeding breeding ewes, wintering 1 cattle and especially for young animals. Clove]' pastures about maintain pigs, so thiil all grain fed goes to make flesh. Pigs running on clover are healthy, and have good bone and constitution —points of special importance with breeding stock.
