“Meetings Drag on Unnecessarily”
THE FARMERS’ UNION
PROTEST VOICED
BUSINESS NOT COMPLETED
Exception to the conduct of meetings of the Franklin subprovincial executive of the Farmers’ Union was voiced by the Pukekohe branch at its monthly meeting on Friday evening.
It was stated that because the rules of procedure were not strictly adhered to, members had to leave before the conclusion of meetings which dragged on unnecessarily. “There is too much cackling in the morning and we get nowhere,” remarked one member.
Mr G. F. Shipherd, chairman of the Fukekohc branch, observed that at the previous meeting of the executive a discussion on facial eczema had lasted over two hours.
“It is not Hie fault of the system hut the fault of the people. They all want to hear their own voices,” said Mr R. C. Clark.
“Last meeting,” he continued, “I made notes on the number of times various members spoke. Between 11* a.m. and 3.30 p.m. one member spoke seven times, another six, another five, another four, another three, while five spoke once. One person spoke to a motion three times. Next time I attend, I intend to start a campaign ci proceedure.” “Rotten chairmanship” was the terse remark of another member.
