MEETING OF EXECUTIVE
THE PAVILION FOR PIGS
ACCEPTANCE OF TENDER
The executive or the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society met on Friday evening, there being present: Messrs W. .1. D. Sharp (president), J. Fulton, A. Best, L. G. Logan, F. .1. Morrow, .1. .1. Reynolds, P. T. Field, G. Carter, D. R. Hamilton, G. .). Whitmore, G. Lauer, R. Schlaepl'er, G. F. Mclnnes, A. J. Baynes, E. M. Wright, W. Collie, G. R. Fulton, W. G. Morris, .1. W. Robinson, R. Ewing and G. R. Basham (secretary).
Apologies for absence was received from Messrs A. .T. Harris, R. G. Clark and C. E. Walter, The president extended a welcome to the “baby” member of the executive, Mr G. .T. Whitmore. “As far as the other members are concerned, well, they are hardy annuals. I sincerely hope our coming year of office will be harmonious,” said Mr Sharp. Mr Whitmore replied, staling that he would do his best to further the interests of the society.
Original Decision Adhered to
Consideration was given to the recommendation of the annual meeting that the incoming executive reconsider the question of the proposed site of the pavilion for pigs. Discussion ensued along the lines of that reported pre-
viously, and finally on the motion of Mr Mclnnes, seconded by Mr J. Fulton, it was decided to convert the building, known as the dining room, that neares* the Birch-Station road entrance into a pavilion for pigs. Messrs E. M. Wright and C. J. Whitmore voted against the proposal. The tender of Messrs Duncan Brothers, for £149 for converting the building was accepted. The erection of pens inside the building was left to the pig section committee. The following schedule revising committees were appointed: — Horse section: Messrs G. E. Walter (convener), G. F. Rvan (Whangarata) and W. McGregor (Bamarama). The resignation of Mr G. A. Bennett of Puni. who has sold his farm and is leaving the district, was accepted with regret. Accounts totalling £275 tGs 5d were passed for payment. Mr Morrow, on behalf of the special ground improvements committee, reported that unemployed labour was being utilised in the showgrounds and that good work was being done. He pointed out that transport was required to remove spoil for filling in dit-* form I parts of Hie grounds. Either a motor truck or a horse and dray were required. —The matter was left to the committee which comprises Messrs Morrow, .). Reynolds and the secretary.
Air A. J. Raynes reported the following donations to the prize list for Hie pig section at the 1939 show: £5 from Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Go., Ltd.; £5 from Messrs Alfred Dockland and Sons, Limited; £2 2s
from Mr W. S. Miller; £1 is from Messrs C. McLennan and Co.; £1 is from N.Z. Newspapers, Limited; and £3 3s from Messrs Raynes Brothers. —The donors and Mr Raynes were accorded voles of thanks.
