DISTRICT NEWS.

RAMARAMA NEWS .. EX-SOLDIERS’ REUNION a In spite Of Vei’y inclement weather the Ramarama sub-branch of the Franklin Returned Soldier’s Association recently held a successful reunion in the public hall. Owing to the indisposition of the branch chairman, (Mr G. 0. Gaskell), Mr H. Wootten presided, and extended a welcome to visitors from the Clevedon, Hunua, Manurewa and Papakura branches, and Mr S. D. Rice, president of the association.

The toast of absent comrades was proposed by Mr H. 0. Grut, secretary of the Papakura branch, who appealed to members to carry on the good work of their deceased comrades, and stick together for the benefit of the chaps who were in need of Hie assoeiafion's assistance.

Mr F. Whyte, chairman of the Manurewa branch, in proposing the toast of the visitors, said it was a pleasure to he present. They had been well recompensed by the good fare and programme provided for braving the inclement weather. On behalf of the visitors he expressed thanks for the club’s kind invitation to he present. Mr S. J). Rice, on behalf of the association, briefly reviewed the results of the Dominion conference and said they were fortunate, as an association, in having such fine delegates as Messrs G. Walsh and F. Bagnall to represent them. He expressed the view that the War Veterans’ Allowance still did not adequately support a digger’s wife and children at that decent standard of life it should. He appealed for more frequent visits to King-seat by members to make their brother digger patients feel they took a real live interest in them.

“There are, unfortunately, a large number of returned men still not members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association,” said Mr Rice, and he appealed to all present to do their utmost to bring every returned man into the association, and thereby present a bold united front to the Government of the day to demand the distressed diggers’ rights.

An enjoyable musical programme was provided by Messrs Bert Rae, J. Trenoulh, 0. Smith, T. Roberts, A. Walker and T. G. Seaton.
