13th ANNIVERSARY
CONGRATULATIONS RECEIVED
LAST WEEK’S GATHERING
One of the most successful social functions held in Pukekohe for some time, took place in the Oddfellows’ hal! on Thursday evening, the occasion being the thirteenth anniversary of the Kia Ora Lodge of the order of Druids.
There was an excellent attendance which was greatly supplemented by official representatives and visitors from sister lodges. The official party comprised the chairman, Past Arch Pro. A. G. Oldham, and Airs Oldham, piesident number 23 district; Bro. Pavis and Airs Pavis, representative number 2G district; Bro. W. Caddy and Airs Caddy, and past secretary Bro. E. J. Beagley. The hall had been gorgeously decorated with palms, fernery and coloured streamers, while emblazoned in huge red letters across the rear of the stage were the words “Welcome — Kia Ora.” Bro. Brown was master of ceremonies.
Nearly 200 Guests
Nearly 200 guests sat down to a sumptuous banquet during which the following artists entertained: Vocal solos, Aliss W. Barnett and Ah' R. Lafferty, the accompaniments being played by Air T. I-I. Alidgley and Airs Rafferty respectively: pianoforte Items, Bro. T. 11. Alidgley, and by special request the humorous vocal number, “When Father Papered the Parlour”; pianoforte sclos. Airs A. Braden; vocal items, Pro. Sam Loughrin; acccrdeon solos, Bro. J. Rodgers. A great deal of credit is due to the stewards who worked as the “silent division” and were always at the beck and call of the guests. They were: Bros. R. Jackson, C. Maxwell, M. Sullings, G. Frew, 11. Atkins, L. Fischer, D. Bolwell and E. Goddard. The toast list was as follows: Bro. A. G. Oldham proposing the first to the King and the Druids: Bro. Denniston, “The Grand Lodge” (replied to by Bro.- W. Caddy) ; Bro. Caddy, “Kia Ora Lodge” (replied to by Bro. Beaglcy) ; Bro. T. J. Aloore, “Ladies and Visitors” (replied to by Airs Palon) ; Bro. Paton. “Artists and Stewards” (replied to by Bro. Frew) ; Bro. AV. E. Pavis, “Chairman and Press.”
Congratulatory remarks to the Kia Ora Lodge on attaining its thirteenth birthday were given hv representatives of sister Druid Lodges from Auckland, Roskili, Otahuhu, Newmarket, Bevonport, Ponsonby, Alanukau, Eden and also by representatives of the Afanchester Unity, Excelsior and Rebecca Lodges of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.
An Enjoyable Dance
The latter part of the evening \va spent in dancing, the music being sup plied by Bro. T. It. Alidgley (piano) and Bro. J. F. Rodgers. Bro.’’A. A AToonie was master of ceremonies.
