SCHOOL FANCY DRESS DANCE. A schoolchildren’s fancy dress dance was held on Thursday last in the Mau- | ku Victory hall, and proved an unqualij fled success. At an early hour the : kail presented a truly festival scene. The children’s portion of the programme comprised mainly folk dances, including ‘‘.Jenny Plucks Pears,” “Rufty Tufty,” “Old Mole,” ‘‘lf all the World were paper,” “Ribbon dance,” “Selinger’s Round,” Danish “Clap Dance, Shoemaker’s dance and “Pop goes the Weasel.” Three standard girls, Dulcie Chandler, Betty Rowe and Clara Wymer gave a very fine Maori poi dance. At the conclusion of the children’s dances the headmaster .Mr F. .). Lownsborough. thanked all present for their interest in school activities and congratulated the parents on the splendid display of fancy costumes. After supper, dancing for adults continued till midnight. Mr H. Twidle acted as M.C. and excellent music was supplied by Mr T. H. Midgley of Pukekohe. |

MERCER NEWS. TOWN BOARD MEET. The monthly meeting of the Mercer Town Board held last week, was attended by Messrs F. .T. Freeborn ( chairman), E. B. Morey, H. Gordon and B. Wilson (clerk). Residents of Marden road suggested that property owners on the route of the proposed new road to Whangamarino block give the necessary land without compensation. No action was taken, it being reported that the -Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R Semple, would be visiting the locality during the recess and that the matter would be placed before him. Satisfaction was expressed with the filling carried out near the corner of the town hall. When the members sat later as the domain board it was reported that a start had been made with the erection of the pavilion for use by sports clubs. Relaying of Line. The loop line from the railway station to Hie wharf is now being relayed.
