GLENBROOK NOTES. HOCKEY MATCH. A hockey match arranged by the Rev. Finnis, between the Glenbrook Bible Class boys and Whiri Whiri girls was played at Massey Park, Waiuku, on Thursday afternoon, resulting in a win for the boys by 9 goals to 6. Mr Finnis was referee.

The annual meeting in connection with the hall was held on Friday evening. There was a fair attendance. The report and balance sheet showed that the finances of the hall were in a satisfactory condition. Although quite a number of expensive . improvements had been carried out in the past year there was a credit balance of £l7. A set of general rules recommended by the retiring committee was fully discussed and unanimously adopted by the meeting. It was recommended by the meeting that further improvements be made in the dressing rooms and supper room which would greatly add to to the convenience of patrons. The retiring committee received a hearty vote of thanks for the work done during the year and the following committee was elected for the coming year: Messrs C. J. T. Hodgkinson (chairman), J. Bellingham (secretary), F. Schlup, E. McKinney and I. Gearon.

■ A number of friends were entertained by Mr and Mrs J. Hodgldnson at their residence on Friday evening to celebrate the occasion of their silver wedding. A happy evening was spent and Mr and Mrs Hodgldnson were wished many more years of united happiness and it was hoped that the company present would be able to celebrate at their golden wedding. On Monday morning when a prominent local resident went to start the morning milking, he found that the engine of the milking plant failed to spark up in the usual manner. On investigation it was found that an essential part of the magneto had been stolen during the night by some mean .thief,, evidently an amateur engineer. This was a particularly mean theft as it is no joke having to milk 70 cows (by hand. Had this contemptible person made known his difficulty at the [farmhouse concerned, no doubt every |, assistance would have been given. I On Sunday night a local farmer was ; aroused by the barking of dogs among .his stock. On rising to investigate, a number of dogs were found worrying sheep. This is the third occasion within the last week or two that sheep have been worried in this district and folk would be well advised to keep their dogs on the chain at night, as innocent dogs are drawn into mischief in the excitement. This is likely to happen anytime, but more so on moonlight nights. The many friends of Mr Albert Gilmore will be pleased to know that though he is still an out-patient of the Auckland hospital, he is making satisfactory progress toward recovery since the accident which befel him some weeks ago. At the present time there are not sufficient funds available to carry on at full time. PUKEKAWA NEWS. WOMEN'S DIVISION MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Pukei kawa branch of the Women's division, Farmers' Union, held at the residence of Mrs R. Bell on Wednesday, several new members were enrolled. It is probable that a junior branch will be formed at a. later date. The president, Mrs M. G. Orr, gave an account of the annual meeting of the Waitemata Provincial Council, which was held at Auckland recently. Mrs H. A. Hawke was also a delegate. Members were unanimous in the decision to support the scheme for sending the sons of New Zealand returned soldiers, in necessitous cases to Flock house. Remits for the conference were discussed. Although not so many as were expected turned up to the Ararimu Returned Soldiers' dance, those who did attend thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The floor was fast, and the schoolroom had been very tastefully decorated for the occasion. Good music was provided by Mrs Keane and Mr Taylor. Messrs L. Perrin and S. Markham were very efficient M.C's. On Saturday morning Ararimu had the pleasure of a visit from the Bombay schoolboys' football team, which played the Ararimu team. The teams were fairly evenly matched, but Ararimu played vigorously from the start and obtained a fair lead. Toward the finish Bombay was pressing hard, but Ararimu won by 14 points to 8. Arrangements are being made for a return match at Bombay next Saturday. Mr A. Wray was a popular referee.
