JONES-STEVENS BOUT

CANCELLED BY ASSOCIATION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 2. The boxing match between Willie Jones and Roy Stevens, which was to have been staged at Petone on Saturday, has been cancelled by a decision to-night of the executive of the Hutt Valley Boxing Association, which was staging the . fight; A resolution was adopted by the association stating that certain aspersions had been cast on Jones; Those aspersions, though totally disbelieved by the committee, had been made public in such a manner as prevented l Jones .from making an effeeti v e reply without taking.court action. The coihmittee felt, however, that it would he unfair to the public, to Jones, and to the association to stage the projected contest between .Tones and Stevens, until the former, had had' an opportunity of clearing himself. The committee would afford Jones every possible assistance in any steps he took to that end.
